A kitchen big enough for a family of seven

Drag the handle to compare the same wall before and after.

After: the same sink wall with cream glazed cabinets, open steel shelving, subway tile and a farmhouse sink
Before: dark wood cabinets, red tin backsplash and dated lighting along the sink wall

The challenge

A small, dark kitchen built for a different era. Dark cabinets, backsplash, countertop and floor made it feel even tighter, and the dining room next door went unused. The family wanted a bright, open room where everyone could cook, eat and spend time together.

What we did

We took out the wall between the kitchen and dining room so light runs from the front of the house to the back. The old pantry became a built-in pocket for a full-size refrigerator, and since the clients chose open shelving over upper cabinets, we built a long island with drawers down its entire length so no storage was lost.

A referral from the kitchen aisle.

One of our clients overheard a couple talking about a kitchen renovation in a home goods store. She shared her own experience with Clark Contracting and gave them our number. Within weeks we were working on their kitchen. That’s how we like to do business.

  • In progress: white waterfall-edge island with dark wood cabinets in front of large windows
  • In progress: stainless range hood and backsplash panel over a gas range
  • In progress: tall white gloss cabinets with built-in wall ovens and refrigerator

In their words

Fair prices, daily updates, and rooms they can’t believe are theirs.

Now, I just walk into my house and stand in the doorway in complete shock and awe that this is my house.

We called Derrick to see what our options were. With five kids, our renovation budget was kind of small. He came over, talked to us, took measurements, asked us what we wanted… He helped us narrow them down, did a sketch, gave us an extremely fair price, and started our renovation the following week.

Had it not been for Derrick meeting with me daily and explaining what to expect, a system I began to look forward to during the renovation, I probably would have moved out of my house.

My bathroom is stunningly beautiful. I would definitely use them again.

I had already met with two contractors, one of which quoted me close to twenty thousand dollars to renovate my bathroom… As a retired widow on a fixed income, I was stressed about how much it would cost and that was when my daughter told me to call Derrick.

When he arrived at my home, he was extremely professional, but nice. His quote was extremely fair and he seemed to ‘get’ what I wanted from a design standpoint. When he started the project he kept me informed of what he was doing, asked my opinion on even the smallest details, and came in on budget.

How a project runs

You’ll always know what happens next.

A renovation is no small thing to live through. Our clients say the steady communication mattered as much as the workmanship.

  1. Step 1: Meet & measure

Derrick comes to your home, takes measurements and listens. Bring the napkin sketch, the magazine pages, the thousand saved photos.

  2. Step 2: Sketch & price

We help you narrow the ideas down to a plan, sketch it out and give you a straight, fair price before any work begins.

  3. Step 3: Build, with check-ins

During the job you'll hear what's happening and what's next. Clients tell us those daily conversations are what got them through.

Who we are

Exceptional work for a fair and honest wage.

Derrick Clark’s standard since day one

Derrick was born in Tennessee and moved to Delaware as a kid. He’s called this area home ever since, but the Southern roots run deep: an easygoing, polite way of doing business and a serious taste for sweet tea.

He’s an entrepreneur with strong ties to his community and a family man who believes in the legacy a small family business can leave. That shows up on the job. The person who measures your kitchen is the person who answers your questions while it’s being built.
